Copper Canyon Sierra Madre

Members Only

Tucson Firefighters have been asked to help provide first aid services on the Sierra Madre Express tours into Mexico's Copper Canyon. This is an incredible six-day journey into the heart of the Sierra Madre mountain range – home to the Tarahumara Indians who live as primitively today as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago.

The route of the railroad through the Copper Canyon region is considered an engineering marvel as it passes through 87 tunnels and over 35 bridges. The train climbs from sea level to over 8,000 feet providing 360º views of spellbinding chasms and spectacular side canyons.

Beginning in Tucson, you will be transported by bus to Nogales, Sonora, to board the train. Your tour will include historical stops at Spanish missions, shopping for Tarahumara crafts, being entertained by cultural dancers and musicians, and visiting a remote Tarahumara village and cave home.

This tour is first class all the way and tickets sell for approximately $3,500 per person.

This opportunity is for medical professionals (E.M.T.s, Paramedics, Nurses, and M.D.s) to take a working vacation on what has been described as “The world's most exciting train ride” by the Society of American Travel Writers.

COST: Medical Professional $150 (Additional $400 for a guest) (See “ Deposit/Fee Schedule”)

Dates for the winter/spring schedule have been posted in DB # 770 (December 5, 2006).
